My father died November 5, 1986. This song was written in the period just after. It was a difficult time and writing about the life that my mother and father had given their children and the quiet love they shared, helped to give expression to my deep sorrow. This is the how it works, we live somewhat unaware, we lose someone close to us and then, through our sadness, come to realize how fragile it all is. Hopefully, as a part of healing, we find a way to express our gratitude for the beautiful mystery that living is, and the sense of joy that life brings to each of us, as painful as it sometimes can be. My brother Barry played bass on this track and Rick Johnson programmed the drum track. Rick also recorded and mixed ‘A Usual Day’ at his Lexington studio, Professional Help.
