'WEIGHT OF THE WORLD'
from the album “The Singing Bridge” (1989)
Words and Music by Patrick McNeese
Credits: Patrick McNeese - grand piano & vocal / Barry McNeese - bass / David White - drums / Tom Shirley - syntheziser.
This recording began in the University of Kentucky’s School of Music practice rooms. It was there I spent many hours teaching myself to play the piano, often times skipping the courses I was supposed to be attending. I vividly recall those tiny, soundproofed rooms where the ancient, grand pianos shimmered beneath fluorescent lights, enticing this novice pianist with their rich tones and tremendous power to completely absorb all of one’s imagination and energy. It was there I became the musician and the poet who wrote what exists on this recording.
Engineered and mixed by
Rick Johnson at Professional Help Studio, LexKY.
lyrics
Weight of the World
Yesterday, scared away, by the night fall, In the Morning, new day forming, as the birds call, You awaken , slightly shaken, bout some dream you saw
Its a new day, find a new way, to walk into the same wall...
You’d like to turn the key.. collect the prize.. and you thought a softer breeze..
would fill your skies...
So what are you going to do, tell me true, it up to you, yeah you
Yesterday was a beautiful day, now its over, and tomorrow, is only borrowed its like they told you, its the same as what the flame has only colder, and you’re a strange man but your the same man only older.
You’d like to make a stand, ..take a chance...But you’ve grown tired, of the band and the dance...
So what are you going to do, tell me true, it up to you yeah you
You can carry the weight of the world, ... so long.... so long.
It's a crowd scene, such as loud scene,
you step outside, on a night street,
its no great feat, to find a place to hide.
Well the world turns, and one soon learns,
that dreams can die, but the thing is,
what I mean is, you gotta try
Art is my life. I have been dedicated to it since I can remember. I painted and drew as a small child and began writing and
performing my own music in my early teens.
